In recent weeks Bugatti has been on a roll because today Bugatti announced they are the first automotive manufacturer to break the 300 mph barrier. This world record was achieved last month on the 2nd of August in a near-production ready Chiron prototype.

Bugatti entrusted this task with a man who's been at the forefront of VMAX records in the past. Test driver Andy Wallace piloted the Chiron prototype to a top speed of 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h) at Volkswagen Group's Ehra-Lessien test track. Andy was also the test driver that attached the top-speed record back in 1998 in the legendary McLaren F1 to a top speed of 240.1 mph (386.4 km/h).

This new record is mind blowing; however, the next question is who will step up and try to break this record. Proven manufacturers who have held previous top-speed records that may go after the record is Hennessey with the Venom F5 or Koenigsegg in the Jesko. Another outsider could go after the record is SSC North America with the new Tuatara hypercar.
