If you're a car nut and a frequent user of social media, then I'm sure you would have heard of the Mighty Car Mods boys Marty and Blair (Moog). The boys from Sydney Australia have been doing their show for around nine years now, and after nine years they know how to produce great content.
Their niche in the YouTube world is modifying cars built for the Japanese and Australian markets. This recipe has been a good one over the last nine years, so much so that it's lead to over 2 million subscribers on their YouTube channel. Yesterday they dropped a great little video called "10 Second Sleeper (Transformer Special)" which runs for about half an hour.
I won't give too much away on what they do, you'll just have to watch their video. I will say this, they have finally used an Australian designed and manufactured engine. The engine in question is the Barra straight-six from Ford Australia.
The Barra straight-six and V8 engines were the two engine options for the Australian Ford Falcon, starting with the 2002 BA right through to 2016 FG. The sad thing is that the last Australian made Falcon rolled off the production line in Geelong Victoria back on the 7 of October last year. I only recently visited Geelong last month and seen the Ford Factory. Sadly, it's a factory that's now looking like a ghost town. The name Barra comes from its code name "Barramundi" during its development back in 2002. If you're not from Australia, a Barramundi is a tasty Australian fish found in the northern parts of Australia.
For me, the MCM boys have been a great inspiration and one of many reasons why I started Car Hamlet. I know Car Hamlet is but a drop in the ocean compared to the size of MCM, but I just want to say, boys, you are bloody legends! Also, can we please see more Australian made stuff like the Barra straight-six in future episodes/build projects. Thanks!
