Wednesday night I headed over to Autohaus Hamilton which is in the northern suburbs of Sydney. They'd advertised a week or two ago on social media for their first of four evening social events for 2018 at their workshop.
The theme of the evening was called "Night of Turbo Fever". It was all about getting together and talking about each variant of the Porsche 911 Turbo, starting with the 930 through to the 991.
Personally, I've wanting to learn more about Porsches, so this evening was a great opportunity.
The presentation was jointly done by the team at Autohaus Hamilton, as well as the owner and principal mechanic Grant Geelan. There was a good number of people in attendance who all got to see some fantastic Porsches.
It all kicked off talking about two 930's; then the talk moved over to the two 964's. One 964 I think was a Turbo 3.3, and the other I think was a Turbo 3.6 because it had Red Break Callipers. But don't hold me to that, because im still a rookie when its comes to 911's. Personally the dark green 964 Turbo 3.6 was one of the of my favourites, the paintwork alone was immaculate.
The next Turbo 911 on display was a silver 993 Turbo S; the 993 was a big step in development for Turbo 911's. The 993 came in two variants the Turbo and Turbo S just like the 964. But what got my attention was the 993 was the first "911 turbo" to have all-wheel drive, but what was also interesting to note is it was the last 911 to be air cooled. Other things learnt from the talk was you could tell the differences between the 993 Turbo and Turbo S by its appearance. The Turbo S had yellow brake callipers as well as air scoops behind the doors, plus it had a slightly larger rear wing then the standard Turbo.
Then it was on to the last three models of Turbo goodness. The 996, 997, as well as the current model you can buy from any Porsche showroom in the world, is the 991. These last 3 Turbo Porsches have become performance beasts with each one surpassing its predecessor.
The night was great and hats off to Grant and his team for opening their business after hours for the event. It's great to see company's like Autohaus Hamilton as well the Porsche owners and enthusiasts coming together to enjoy their shared passion.
In the last year, I have attended a few open days/events like this one within the automotive community, and I hope this trend continues with other businesses and enthusiasts in the future.
