Since its inception in 2011, the Lamborghini Aventador has been synonymous with power and sleek looks. Filling the big shoes of the Murciélago, the Aventador has eclipsed its predecessor, with over 5000 units produced across multiple models. Now a new model has entered the scene, and will no doubt be on everyone’s wish-list.

Unveiled mid-December last year, the Lamborghini Aventador S is set to pop up in showrooms and dealerships worldwide in early 2017, giving enthusiasts a few more months to save up for the most advanced model yet.

The Aventador S marks the next generation for Lamborghini, with the company emphasising technological improvements within the super sports car market. One aspect of these improvements is the new four-wheel steering system, a first for any Lamborghini model. Providing improved agility at lower speeds and increased stability at higher speeds, the Aventador S is easier to control in a busy city street and on the racetrack. Combining with the improved axle systems, the Aventador S is arguably Lamborghini’s most responsive model yet.

Design-wise, the Aventador S is sleeker, with Lamborghini increasing aerodynamic efficiency to counter the extra power under the hood. From the back, new features include redesigned tail lights in addition to a transformed diffuser, which includes vertical fins that assist in generating downforce and reducing drag. The exhaust system has also been altered, with a lighter, three pipe system now in place. Additionally, the Aventador S also comes with an active rear wing, optimising the car’s overall balance and handling across all driving types.

A longer splitter dominates the front, assisting engine cooling and aerodynamics, giving the nose a meaner look. Air ducts located near the front bumper also assist in the aerodynamics of the car. The result of these aerodynamic features and look is 130% more downforce over previous Aventador models, making the drive safer and more comfortable at higher speeds.

Speaking of higher speeds, Lamborghini has carried on with tradition, powering the Aventador S with a V12, 6.5L engine, capable of hitting top speeds of almost 350km. Lamborghini have also managed to squeeze an additional 40hp under the hood through improvements to the Variable Valve Timing system, as well as the Variable Intake System, taking the total to 740hp.

Inside the beast is a new digital dashboard that allows for full customisation for driver preferences across all driving modes, making the experience as comfortable or as exhilarating as you want. AppleCarPlay comes standard, but drivers have control over the interior through the Ad Personam customisation program provided by Lamborghini. Revheads and track enthusiasts can also opt for the Telemetry System, which provides timed laps and performance analysis, making it feel like all your Christmas’ came at once.

Regardless of where your car allegiances lie, we can all agree that the new Aventador S is a beast. Combining raw power with agility and technological refinements makes it not only a head-turning piece of eye candy, but a feat of engineering.
