For months, rumours have been building about the all-new seventh-generation Ford Mustang regarding its powertrain. Finally, on Wednesday, the 14th of September, Ford Motor Company unveiled in Detroit, Michigan, that the next-generation Mustang will still come with the almighty naturally aspirated V8 engine. The V8 is a new advanced, 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine.

Oh, by the way, if you are not interested in the V8 for some strange reason, you will still be able to order a Mustang a with a turbocharged 2.3-litre 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine.

Recently, many companies have been moving toward hybrid powertrains and electric vehicles. However, Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley has confirmed Ford will invest heavily into its internal combustion engine program. This decision makes a lot of sense, with carbon-neutral e-fuels coming onto the market in the next few years. But unfortunately, Ford didn't proclaim or announce any power or torque figures for the next generation of engines.

Also, Ford thankfully retained the six-speed manual transmission for the seventh-generation Mustang. However, a 10-speed automatic transmission will be available. In addition, the Mustang GT's manual transmission will come with rev-matching when the clutch is engaged. Also, the seventh-generation Mustang interior is the most technologically advanced to date. For example, you can customise the Mustang's new digital instrument cluster with various cluster designs.

Surprisingly, Ford announced a new and unique edition to the Mustang lineup called the Dark Horse. The new Dark Horse model is a street and track-focused version of the beloved Mustang. However, Ford is still to confirm performance figures and power output on the Dark Horse.

Ford Australia hasn't provided any pricing yet; however, the seventh-generation Ford Mustang should arrive in Aussie showrooms sometime in late 2023.
